Electronic ink offers the best of both worlds. It's high-res, but reflective (that is, it isn't lit from behind), which makes it look a lot like a printed page. It's easy on the eyes. In fact, looking at an electronic-ink display looks a lot like looking at a printed page.

There's one thing ebooks could help with, the weight students have to haul around at school. (Something like 20% of their body weight last I heard for the younger kids.)
How right you are, Alan. I was thinking about students in college, too. The whole syllabus could be online, downloadable to less expensive reading devices. I still have two moving boxes full of journal photocopies from graduate school.
