Thanks for your patience and kind messages. The emergency concerned my mother suddenly falling ill. On a few hours notice I managed to cross the country to her bedside and ease her out of this life. At almost 89 years old, she was ready for the next step, very tired of living. For all my poking fun at my Midwestern roots, I must say that I was surrounded by a group of caring, supportive neighbors, Mother's friends, and remarkable medical professionals. I'm grateful we only endure this once, and I don't know how I would have coped without the kindness of many relative strangers. I left San Diego as one woman and returned as another, changed profoundly by my experiences with these kind and generous people.

Your paragraph above was well said.
Georganna, you have my deepest condolences. I went through the same thing this time last year. You have written a touching post. My prayers are with you and your family.
I am so sorry, Georganna. You have my deepest condolences. What you wrote was so profound and very touching. We all do come out different when we experience things in life. I wish you the best and my prayers are with you and your family.
I'm just now reading this. I never know what to say at these moments, but I, too wish to offer my condolences. It was three and a half years ago for me. It sounds as though you got a lot of support and have the right attitude toward all this. Peace be with you. I know your mom is already there. - Karen
