Linking Strategies
Here's a reference I've BOLO'd for quite a while, hoping to raise my Google PageRank from 5 to 6 Sky Rocket to the Top of Google. I've already written about finding information indicating that quality incoming links were the key, but how to acquire them eluded me. In this article, Greg Furey suggests some linking strategies to get more Googlejuice:* post articles on content websites
* use articles for viral marketing
* add link to forum signature
I've written about my one (bad) experience with posting an article on a content provider site, but maybe I gave up too soon. I've never tried the second approach--seems too much like begging (asking others to carry my articles on their websites or newsletters), and I've always done #3, but it hasn't helped. At all. My rank has been at 5 for AGES! I'm still trying to figure out how to get links from sites with PageRanks of 6 and higher. Outright begging just isn't my style and other than offer a reciprocal link or advertising, what is there to do? That seems too much like buying a link. I'm beginning to wonder why I care. Oh, year, as Furey says, "one of the key success factors to getting loads of free Google traffic to your website is increasing page rank."

Achieving a higher PageRank becomes much more difficult past PR5.
When I launched my site in May 2005, it received a PR6 with the very first update. It slipped to PR5 soon thereafter and down to PR4 earlier this year. I have seen predictions of PR5 and PR6 with the next change, but I won't hold my breath.
As the number of sites coming online grows, the pool of sites to be ranked expands. I have heard that Google may do away with PageRank and replace it with Trust Rank as so many people are gaming the system.
'Gaming the system'? Yipes! Is that what I'm trying to do? A Writer's Edge began at zero, as we all do, and progressed rapidly to the 5 level, then stuck. I've examined some level 6 sites and can't see why most of them deserve a higher ranking.
As far as the PageRank estimaters are concerned, the ones I've tried out always say my site is worth a 4! Needless to say, I have little faith in their abilities.
Thanks for your insights.
Well, you probably haven't been gaming the system knowingly. Instead, by providing a content rich site and having established it way back in June 2004, this works to your advantage.
True, many sites which have attained a ranking of PR6 are a curious lot. All it takes are a couple of PR7 back links and a site can surge in the Google rankings.
The webmaster world is abuzz these days as Google's latest PageRank update appears to be weeks late. I won't guess what is going on other than to suggest that a change in the way Google calculates sites will likely be instituted very soon.
Hold on!
Groan! Not another revolution in ranking. How many connections will we lose this time?! How far will we fall? (Not really worried)
