Puss in Books

Puss in Books: Library CatWhen stand-up comic Gary Roma discovered there was a Library Cat Society, he was inspired to make a documentary on cats who live in libraries. His Puss in Books: Adventures of the Library Cat (1997) premiered in 1998 and has been screened at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and had an extended run at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. It was also shown at a dozen film and video festivals, won the Best Documentary award at the United States 8mm Film and Video Festival, and has been featured on Fox News Channel's nationally broadcast Pet News.

The plot (if documentaries have one) is a humorous and thought-provoking look at cats that live in libraries across the United States. Most of these felines and the librarians who care for them belong to the Library Cat Society, whose director Phyllis Lahti, promotes cats in libraries. Jan Louch talks about Baker & Taylor, the internationally famous mascots of the book distributor. Emily Rose presents an alternative view. About 20 library cats are featured. You can find Puss in Books on Amazon.
