Why Writers Need to Have Websites
Some writers just want to see their works available to the world. Others want to be able to say they are published (although publishing yourself does not count for much, believe me). Smart working writers have other goals for their websites:
Saving Time
- Promotion
- Marketing
- Employment
- Convenience

Georganna,
As you mentioned, the primary reason for starting my own blog was to promote my writing and myself. In reviewing blogs like those J.A. Konrath, it becomes increasingly clear that writers should be willing to "pimp" their wares, give away free samples (or in his case, entire PDF versions of his novels) in order to create a following. My blog was not created so that I could say, "I'm a published writer." To me, that is cheesy, and editors/publishers will see right through it.
Indeed, editors and publishers hold self-published credits in little regard, but beginning writers don't know that.
Care for a cheesy sample of editing?
