Rising Non-Awards
Remember how I ranted about the non-awards being pass throughout the blogging community? It has really gotten out of hand. Now they fill at least six pages of ten links each in the Technorati account for A Writer's Edge. Sure, my "authority" level is rising with all these phony posts, but just wait for the crash when they all expire eventually! Please note: I do value the individual, meaningful badges designated by such people as Beth and Lillie and appreciate the holiday greetings from people who I know read this blog.

That pretty much says it all.

Awards are tricky things... to give or receive.I traced back the hokey trend's beginning (for me) to this ignominious award I was not happy to receive on December 7th:
Maybe the secret is to remember that awards need to point to the work we do, and never become the work itself.

I got the "nutty" award also. Thanks for including me in the category of awards you feel are meaningful.
By the time I received the "nutty" award, I woke up and realized that things were getting just a bit out of hand.
Georganna,
I agree with you on this but must confess I wrote about the "Nutty Award." It was silly but it brought back a precious memory to me: my late mother had a little pillow on her favorite chair that said "My family tree is full of nuts." The award reminded me of my mother and her silly pillow and brought a smile to my face. I shared the memory in a post and said that I wouldn't ordinarily recognize such an award, but the memory was too precious to ignore.
But I do agree that these awards are getting out of hand, and there are a bunch I have ignored. In general, except for my nutty memory :-), I acknowledge only awards that are relevant.
