Google Demotes PageRank
Last Thursday, as I lay sleeping, I guess, Google quietly removed PageRank from its Webmaster Tools. Oh, the gauge is still in the browser toolbar (if you have it installed) but Google employee Susan Moskwa says webmasters are not to pay attention to PageRank:
Uh huh. Would you mind telling that to advertisers? How about removing page ranking altogether?
*still smarts from demotion from 5 to 0 to 2*
We've been telling people for a long time that they shouldn't focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it's the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true. We removed it because we felt it was silly to tell people not to think about it, but then to show them the data, implying that they should look at it. :-)It's true, Google has long stated that, "We only update the PageRank displayed in Google Toolbar a few times a year; this is our respectful hint for you to worry less about PageRank, which is just one of over 200 signals that can affect how your site is crawled, indexed and ranked. PageRank is an easy metric to focus on, but just because it's easy doesn't mean it's useful for you as a site owner."

I think Most things About Page Rank are Myths and We should only be thinking of Writing Quality content for Our Blogs. If the content on your Blog is Good Enough Google will find it Anyway. I know which of My Blog Posts Come up in Searches and Why but Most of the time I am Writing for Readers and Not Spiders. Do you think people Really Have time to Submit to Article Directories almost daily just to Increase Page Rank ?.
What's with all the misplaced capital (not capitol) letters in your message, Christopher?
Sadly, too many, especially beginners, look for short cuts to develop writing careers. They fall for the "article marketing" spiels as a way to Get Noticed or Get Your Work Out There, thinking they will get freelance writing work or, even more pathetic, obtain an agent or sell a novel.
If they have websites, as I heartily recommend for all writers, then they want those sites to rank high in search returns (not the same as PageRank, of course). And if they want to make money from their sites/blogs, then they are concerned with PageRank because that is an important yardstick to advertisers.
