Is the Blog Era Over?
I'm having a very bad month, so far. What with the confusing brouhaha with Amazon, iBooks from Apple, Macmillan and other publishers over the price of e-books, Blogger.com forcing us to quit using FTP to upload posts, a summons for jury duty the same day contest judging is due, taxes looming ... not only can I not get ahead, I can't even catch up with myself.
Shall I quit blogging? The "migration" proposed by Blogger.com is unacceptable. So is installing WordPress and learning how to use yet another complicated program. I'm trying to find an easy one to create my own RSS feed, but even with that, the technical aspects of blogging on your own are daunting. It would mean creating three or more web pages for every post.
Another thought is to take the blog private and deliver it weekly by email, incorporating my weekly "Inspiration" jotting. Or maybe IT'S A SIGN!!! Time to quit, slow down, smell the flowers and let my mind gel into cliches.
Twitter is so much easier, more fun, more connections, chats.
Is the blog era over for all of us?

Before you make up your mind about all of the above, are you truly sure that you won't love WordPress? Am not using it...yet...but many have told me it's easy-peasy.
Maybe give a look/see at it and then add that into your equation about future.
Don't know if you've seen this. But it might help. http://bit.ly/agMtNy
WordPress is really easy. And how about posting on Facebook? Just a thought--you can join Networked Blogs. Lots of folks are doing it. Whatever you decide, good luck!
Geo,
I think your first paragraph says it all. It's been a tough month for you and maybe now is not the time to make such weighty decisions. I like your idea of taking a little time to smell the flowers. Maybe a few days of quiet and refreshing are in order???
Whichever way you chose to go, take care of yourself first.
Hugs,
Elizabeth
Well crap. I just typed up my nice little reply touting Wordpress and it got erased by WP telling me I don't own that identity! Obviously I made a mistake typing my site name, but it's kind of ironic, huh?
Anyways, I won't let that sway me, I'll just say it again, only shorter. Do take care of yourself, but then, when you're done, check out Wordpress. It's really user-friendly, and super-easy, and believe me, I'm no techy. I think you'll love it.
Thanks for the comments.
My problem with WP is that when I first checked, my site host did not want the program on his server. I don't want my blog hostage to a different server not under my control. Also, I have almost six years of posts AND related files. Do you have any idea how many images alone that is? Unless I can download the WP program and simply begin producing posts with it, uploading them to my site fairly seamlessly, it's a no go, probably. That's "nova" in Spanish. Like the car. Starting a NEW blog with WP is probably quite easy, just like with Blogger. Even easier and less expensive if you use the programs' free servers.
When I mentioned "time to quit," I meant permanently. At least, this blog, updated almost daily. My life is already taking a turn (for the better, I hope) that places me in more local, here and now experiences (as opposed to my universal Internet life with all you lovely friends).
Stay tuned.
